You’re most likely here because you’re interested in finding the right service dog training program for you. We’re here to help!

 Service dog training with Lumos

Here’s the thing, you don’t have to have a trainer to help you with your service dog. Many people successfully train their own service dog or receive a service dog from a nonprofit organization. But, we have found that many people want support and a plan that will help them train on their own. That’s where we come in!

Certified, Professional Trainers

Our head trainer and owner, Hallie Wells, has spent years in the service dog industry. She started as a puppy raiser in college, interned at a service dog school after graduation, and then worked as the puppy program manager at a national accredited guide dog and service dog school. But, there was still more to learn! After her time developing a positive reinformcent puppy raising program, she joined the Peach on a Leash team as their Service Dog Training Director before starting Lumos.

With an expansive background in research and program development in the dog training industry, Hallie has developed an effective training plan that is applicable and can be customized to each service dog and their partner.

The Bright Path

Not all dog training is created equal. Research and years of scientific study has shown us that there is a right way to train dogs and that is through positive reinforcement dog training.

We firmly believe that all dogs, especially service dogs, should be trained with the use of food, play, and real life reinforcement. That means we do not use prong, choke, or electronic collars, leash corrections, or physical force. When science tells us there’s a better way to train dogs, we learn and improve our programs.

We teach service dogs what to do, not how to avoid getting punished. We want service dogs to enjoy their job and partnership with their owner!

Empowered through partnership

Lastly, we ensure that every dog we work with is capable of being a service dog. From the very beginning of the application process, we strive to ensure that the dog loves their job, they have a stable temperament, and are welcome in every environment.

When a dog is trained with Lumos, they’re part of our community with access to our community and trainer support for their entire career. The path of service dog isn’t always certain, but with Lumos it certainly is bright.
