Stress Free Vet Visits

Vet visits don’t have to be stressful for you or your dog!

Practice! Cooperative care is often overlooked and it shouldn’t be. Animals do not need to be restrained for exams, blood draws, or vaccines. Cooperative care makes vet visits less stressful for everyone. Ask your trainer, friends, or family to participate in the task, too.

Bring a variety of high value treats. Some ideas include a lickimat, squeeze pouch, and training treats. Use them to make vaccines, body exams, blood draws, and other procedures better for your pup.

Some dogs are more comfortable waiting in their car instead of the waiting room. Basil much prefers hanging in the car with the air blasting, but Lola loves going into the waiting room for all the sniffs and to get treats from new people.

Ask for your dog to stay in the room with you. This keeps your dog feeling comfortable, ensures they aren’t being over handled, and prevents extra anxiety from occurring by being separated from you.

Advocate for your dog. If your dog is displaying body language and behavior telling you they’re stressed, ask for a break so your dog can shake it off, do a couple easy and fun tricks, or get some pets to help them relax.
